Niue (pronounced ‘New-ay’ – which means ‘behold the coconut’) may be the world’s smallest independent nation, but the Pacific island known as the ‘Rock of Polynesia’ (or just ‘the Rock’) packs in plenty of surprises for the bold traveller. The island sits in the middle of the triangle formed by Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands. This is rugged terrain: ditch the deck chair and unpack your hiking boots and sense of adventure

Tahiti is a legend and it is for a reason. Images of hibiscus flowers, bronzed dancers in grass skirts, a humid breeze over turquoise sea are world-famous. Fish, dolphins, rays, sharks, turtles and more inhabit these clear-water coral gardens that are as excellent for snorkelling as they are for diving and swimming. Surfers ride glassy wave faces at reef passes while kitesurfers fly across the water with the trade winds….

On Samoa you’ll find some of the South Pacific’s best and most pristine beaches, friendly people, flower-filled villages and a pace of life that stands out as slow even in this region. Meet face to face with multicoloured coral and other marine life. Some of the beaches are so stunning that they might give you an idea what heaven looks like. Walk around the shallow waters of Samoa’s lovely lagoons or expolore the wild interior of the island.

Rarotonga is a jungle-covered, volcanic island. If you’re interested in abundant, exotic flora and fauna take a guided trek into the interior. If you’re not the mountain climbing type take a bird watching tour in the lower forest – Rarotonga has almost as many beautiful native birds as it has brilliant tropical fish. Driest months on Rarotonga are from May to October, and the warmest months from January to March. The temperatures are pleasant all year round, so it is usually sun bathing and swimming weather!

Tonga has some of the most beautiful and enticing landscapes in the South Pacific. Once you’ve shifted down into ‘Tonga time’, you’ll find these islands awash with gorgeous beaches, low-key resorts, myriad snorkelling, diving, yachting and kayaking opportunities, hiking trails, rugged coastlines and friendly locals. Gear up for some active pursuits, then wind down with a cool sunset drink to the sound of waves folding over the reef. In Tonga, there really is nothing that can’t wait until tomorrow.

Welcome to Los Angeles! Start with the city’s beaches, from pristine Hermosa to surfing hotspot Surfrider. Head to Venice Beach where the sun-kissed beautiful people with perfect white smiles walk their tiny dogs. Then take a walk along the Walk of Fame. In glittering Hollywood you can catch a blockbuster movie. In Disneyland you can feed your need for speed on roller coasters or shake hands with Mickey Mouse. There’s huge variety to be found at Los Angeles Farmers Market, where Mexican immigrants prepare enchiladas, Jamaicans sell fresh peanut butter and Koreans cook up kimchi.

A crimson bridge, cable cars, a sparkling bay, and streets lined with elegant Victorian homes — San Francisco is undeniably one of the world’s great cities. Located along the Northern California at the state’s distinctive bend in the coast, the region has an alluring magic that stretches beyond the bay to diverse cities with nightlife and trend-setting cuisine.
