Fantastic price but there’s no visa on arrival and advanced visa through the Mozambique Embassy in Washington DC would cost at least $160. So no, I’m not buying. Too bad!

From Timatic: Visa required, except for Nationals of USA can obtain a visa
on arrival for a max. stay of 30 days at Beira (BEW), Nampula
(APL), Maputo (MPM), Pemba (POL), Tete (TET) and Vilankulo

There is no problem to get a visa, you can buy it 🙂

    Horrible advice.
    From US Embassy in Mozambique…..
U.S. citizens traveling to Mozambique should be aware of newly enforced entry requirements to obtain a visa in advance of arrival in the country. With the exception of nationals from a few neighboring countries, all foreigners traveling to the country require a visa.

Timatic is an official IATA tool for airlines for checking visa requirements. So does it mean that an airline will allow you to board a plane without a visa and will carry you back at its own expense in case you are denied entry? It’s unbelievable, usually Timatic info is very up to date. But on the other hand there’s no reason not to trust the US embassy. Probably you just need to call Mozambique embassy in Washington to find out details.

According to Mozambique’s embassy website, Timatic is woefully incorrect.

The general principle is that if you are not a Mozambican citizen, you MUST have a visa to enter Mozambique. However, citizens of the following countries DO NOT need visa:

    Botswana
    Malawi
    Mauritius
    South Africa
    Swaziland
    Zambia
Zimbabwe, unless the purpose to enter Mozambique is to study, work or reside in the country.

Citizens of Angola, Brasil, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Portugal e S.Tomé e Príncipe, holders of an official or diplomatic passport DO NOT require a visa to enter Mozambique.

NOTE. A VISA MUST BE OBTAINED PRIOR TO THE TRIP AT THE CONSULAR SERVICES AS A VISA CAN NO LONGER BE ISSUED UPON ARRIVAL AT ANY OF MOZAMBIQUE’S ENTRANCE POINTS. SHOULD YOU REQUIRE A BORDER VISA YOU MUST REQUIRE PRIOR AUTHORIZATION FROM Direcção Nacional de Migração.
