Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland amidst the Arctic wilderness. It is situated about 10 kilometres (6 miles) south of the Arctic Circle. In summer the sun is high also after midnight and the nightless night or polar day can be seen in Rovaniemi from early June until early July. From mid-August you can witness the northern lights also known as Aurora Borealis. And don’t forget that Lapland is a great place to explore the fresh products of northern forests and rivers so you definitely must taste the local Lappish food!
Experience the magical Aurora borealis! Race around dark wintery forests and across frozen lakes and hunt for the Northern Lights. The best way to witness this natural phenomenon is to stay overnight in one of the igloo hotels in Lapland. You can have a drink in the ice bar, try out the ice sauna and the outdoor hot tub in the snow.
