Nimes, located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Cévennes mountains, can be considered one of the most fascinating cities in the Southern France. The city was established by the Romans and it boasts important remains of the Roman Empire, like the elliptical ancient amphitheatre, well-preserved aqueduct (Pont du Gard), thermae ruins and Roman temple. Besides that, Nimes is worth visiting for its attractive old town and its gardens, as well as its ideal location for discovering the Cévennes National Park.
You can also discover the Regional Nature Park of the Camargue that protects a wetland environment and an adjacent marine area. Designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and a biosphere reserve, the park also includes a lagoon called the Étang de Vaccarès.
