Known as the Temple City, historic Nara was the hub of Japanese culture for centuries. It boasts numerous important old temples, including the Hall of the Great Buddha (Tōdai-ji Daibutsuden), the world's largest timber building.
Undoubtedly, the most interesting place in the city is Nara-koen. This public park is home to the large population of freely roaming deer. The semi-wild animals are surprisingly tame, although they can be aggressive if they ask to be fed.
