Bocas del Toro
If you're looking for pristine beaches, head to Bocas del Toro (meaning "Mouths of the Bull"). The archipelago includes 9 islands, 50 cays and some 200 tiny islets in the northwest of the Caribbean Sea. The islands are accessible by water taxis (taxis marinos) and private boats. The major city is Bocas del Toro, also called Bocas Town, on Isla Colón. This colourful, friendly town, full of Caribbean-style houses, is a relaxed community of West Indians, Latinos and resident gringos. It serves as a convenient base for exploring the remote islands and snorkelling sites.
This tropical paradise, located in northern Panama near the Costa Rican border, is one of Central America’s hottest beach destinations. Head to Cayos Zapatilla, two tiny uninhabited islands, located within the boundaries of the Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park. Snorkel the clear waters of the archipelago to visit numerous reefs and marine life spots. Chill out on Starfish Beach or hop on a boat to Red Frog Beach.
