Costa Rican cuisine
Costa Ricans start the day with "gallo pinto" (literally "painted rooster"), a typical breakfast dish made with rice, beans, onion, bell pepper, and coriander. It's served with eggs, "salchichón" sausage, local cheese and "salsa Lizano". Even McDonald's in Costa Rica serves McPinto!
"Casado" is a hearty lunch meal of rice, beans, salad, and fried ripe plantains with meat or fish. A "copo" is a shaved ice treat with kola syrup, powdered milk and condensed milk. You can get on nearly every beach. "Pipa fria" is cold coconut water.
