How to choose which island to visit?
If you want to have a wonderful vacation without breaking the budget, choose one of the inhabited islands reachable with a ferry from Malé, so that you do not have to pay for a seaplane. Guraidhoo and Fulidhoo, with beautiful lagoons and cheap accommodation, are perfect for backpackers. Ukulhas in Alif Alif Atoll is an environmental friendly island with amazing reef. It is the first ever systematically waste managed island in the Maldives, famed for its cleanliness. Maafushi is most popular local island for tourists, Thulusdhoo is reputed for surfers, Biyadhoo and Rasdhoo are perfect for divers. Dhiffushi is a tiny island newly open to tourists and Himmafushi is another calm island with almost no foreigners.
If you prefer more luxurious experience, Veligandu and Alimathaa are beautiful island resorts, renowned for clear water and unspoiled white sands.
