What to wear in the Maldives
Dress restrictions apply to the capital island and local islands. Please respect the Islamic customs and have your thighs and shoulders covered. A good tip for women is to pack a sarong or scarf. See-through and tight clothing can cause offence. Bikini or swimming costumes should be limited to resorts, private sunbathing areas, boats and designated tourist areas on inhabited islands.
Resort islands have no requirement for you to be modestly dressed on the beaches but generally a sarong is still useful for women. Nakedness is strictly forbidden under Maldivian law so nude or topless bathing is not allowed.
