Triglav National Park
The only national park in Slovenia, is located in the Julian Alps. It was named after the country's highest peak, Mount Triglav, which rises to an elevation of 2864 metres. The territory of the park is known for its intact nature, picturesque mountain peaks and valleys. About two thirds of its area is covered by forests. The national park features extremely rich variety of flora and fauna with numerous rare plant and animal species.
Most of 400 Slovenian peaks that rise higher than 2000 metres are in the area of Triglav National Park. Clear mountain streams run in the numerous gorges and ravines. High in the mountains you'll find the Triglav Lakes, Kriška Lakes and Lake Bohinj - the largest permanent natural lake in Slovenia.
