Deadvlei, Namib Naukluft Park
Namib Naukluft Park is the largest conservation area in Africa and one of Namibia's most spectacular landmarks. The most well-known area of the park is Sossusvlei, a salt pan with characteristic red dunes.
In the nearby Deadvlei you will find the 550-year-old acacia tree skeletons contrasting against the background of white clay pan and steep, golden dunes. The red sand that forms them was deposited here from the Orange River by the Benguela current and strong wind. The sand dunes in the Namib Desert are known as “star dunes” due to the wind shaping them from all directions.
