Etosha National Park
Etosha is one of the most accessible game reserves in Namibia and Southern Africa. This unique park offers a complete contrast of wide open grasslands and a massive salt pan that covers 4760 square kilometres. The park ranks as one of the world’s great wildlife-viewing venues. It is home 114 mammal species as well as 340 bird species, 16 reptile and amphibian species and countless insects.
Wildlife viewing is best in the dry, cooler season (May – October), when there is less vegetation and wildlife congregates around rivers and waterholes, making animals easier to spot. In the wet season, animals scatter around the park. The park is malaria free, accessible in a regular car and the camps provide a range of accommodation as well as restaurants, shops and petrol stations. There is a network of roads leading to various waterholes. Stop your car next to one of them, wait and watch while lions, elephants, springboks and gemsbok come by in the hundreds. In the park you can also meet a giraffe, flamingo, pelican, zebra, black rhino, leopard or cheetah.
