This bay in New Brunswick is known for having the highest tidal range in the world. Every day, 100 billion tonnes of water empty out of the Bay of Fundy, allowing visitors the chance to walk along the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. At Hopewell Rocks you can admire bizarre rock formations like sculptures in a gallery. At high tide, the water level rises by about 16 metres / 56 feet (the height of a 5-storey building). Sink your toes into the warm sand of the ocean floor and find hidden coves. Hopewell Rocks is open from mid-May to early October.
Located halfway between the equator and the north-pole, the Bay of Fundy is also renowned for the rarest whales in the world, semi-precious gems and dinosaur fossils. Whale-watching tours operate on both sides of the bay.
