Nakhal is a large fortification, located 120 kilometres (75 mi) to the west of Muscat. The fort houses a museum of historic guns and also hosts a weekly Friday goat market. The Jabrin Castle, built in 1670, is an excellent example of military architecture. Explore the interior of this huge castle and admire the views from the top of the tower.
The Bahla Fort is an architectural masterpiece and the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The castle is surrounded by an oasis. This historical fortress near Jebel Akhdar dates from the 13th century and is well-preserved after being closed for renovation for several years. Nizwa has the castle with old Portuguese cannons. The view from the top is fantastic. You can also visit the forts in Taqah, Samail or Al Hazm.
