Amsterdam is best known for its channels, bikes, museums, bars and coffee shops. This beautiful city provides the perfect blend of history, culture and fun.
This huge public square is famous for the 17th-century Royal Palace (Koninklijk Palace), former home of the Dutch royal family. An interesting fact is that the building was never built as a palace. Until Napoleon's brother Louis declared himself King of Holland (1806-1810), it had been Amsterdam's grand city hall. Today it serves as the King's residence when he's in the city.
Dam Square is also home to the New Church (Nieuwe Kerk), the National Memorial Statue and a Ferris wheel.
