It provides a delightful fusion of East and West in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula.

The historic town of Mostar developed in the 15th and 16th centuries as an Ottoman frontier town. The city of diverse cultural, ethnic and religious communities is an outstanding example of a multicultural urban settlement. Mostar has long been known for its old Turkish houses and Old Bridge, (Stari Most) on emerald river Neretva. In the 1990s conflict most of the historic town was destroyed but the Old Bridge and ancient buildings in the Old Town have been rebuilt after war.

Just 12 km from Mostar there is a small village Blagaj, situated at the spring of the Buna river. The historical Blagaj Tekija is a monastery built for the Dervish cult around 1520, with elements of Ottoman architecture and Mediterranean style.

What to do:
The central and eastern part of the country is mountainous and perfect for skiing, trekking, bicycling. In Bihac you can go white-water rafting or canoeing on the river Una.

The southern tip of the country has a Mediterranean climate and about 20 kilometres (12 miles) of coastline surrounding the city of Neum. You can play beach volleyball, rent water sports equipment or just relax and enjoy the sunshine.
