Where to stay:
Near the Rift Valley you can consider staying at 4* Smith Hotel with good reviews. Located in Kiserian, it features free WiFi access and free private parking. The hotel has a year-round outdoor pool, barbecue and children’s playground, and guests can enjoy a drink at the bar. The rooms come with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. Certain units have a seating area where you can relax. A terrace or balcony is featured in certain rooms. All rooms come with a private bathroom. For your comfort, you will find bathrobes, slippers and free toiletries. You can play billiards at this hotel, and car hire is available.

In Malindi you can get the celebrity treatment with world-class service at 5* Villa Mela Hotel. Featuring a lush garden with a pool, this 5-star hotel is located within 500 m of the Indian Ocean. It has a restaurant and a bar, and offers massages and a fitness area. Each room at the Villa Mela faces the pool garden and includes typical wooden beds equipped with mosquito net. They are all air conditioned and come with a private bathroom fitted with bath, shower, and hairdryer. Silversands beach is only 5 minutes’ walk away, while the Malindi Marine National Park is 500 m away.

What to do:
Go on a safari to discover Kenya’s awesome wildlife, meet baby elephants and sleep under the stars in a tent.

Dive fish-rich coral reefs, relax on pearly beaches and explore tropical islands. The coastal tourist attractions include surfing, kitesurfing, deep-sea fishing and other water sports.

The Crater Lake Game Sanctuary features a wildlife-rich nature trail. Hell’s Gate National Park, with two extinct volcanoes, offers excellent hiking opportunities.

History buffs will enjoy exploring Mombasa with its 16th-century Fort Jesus and Old Town. Experience the melting pot of cultures and cuisines in Malindi. Meet the ancient tribes such as the Maasai, Kikuyu or Samburu, and get to know their traditional customs.

If you’re fit you can climb Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in the country and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. The 5199 meter (17,057 ft) high summit is a difficult technical climb that requires advanced skill and great effort.

Other activities include ballooning over the Masai Mara and snorkelling in Malindi on the Indian Ocean coast. About 30 km northeast of Malindi, the Marafa Depression, also called Hell’s Kitchen, is a set of sandstone gorges sculpted by the wind and rain.

Crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, Amboseli National Reserve is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close.
