Hidden treasures of Menorca
The little sister island to Mallorca has a coastline of 220km, with crystal-topaz waters and 300 days a year of sunshine. It has more beaches than Mallorca and Ibiza combined. The most widely recognised images of the beaches in Menorca come from stunning Macarella and Macarelleta, situated on the south western coast of the island, near Alaior. These idyllic beaches have fine white sand and calm turquoise water. Surrounding hills covered with pine trees and holm oaks shelter the bay. Macarelleta is a small cove, located within 5 minutes walking distance from Macarella beach.
Menorca is also home to an impressive collection of prehistoric stone monuments, known as taulas. These Stonehenge-like mysterious megaliths reach 3.7 meters (12ft).
What to do: Sporting enthusiasts can experience superb cycling, sailing, swimming, snorkelling, rock-climbing and trekking in both of the islands. In Mallorca, Serra de Tramuntana is perfect for riding a mountain bike or hiking and Cap de Formentor offers excellent climbing opportunities. One of the best cycling areas in Menorca is Cami de Cavalls, an ancient path of 186 km (116 miles) which runs along the island’s fantastic coastline.
Where to stay: In Mallorca we encourage you to stay at fabulous 3* Sotavento Apartments in Megaluf. Offering a Jacuzzi, this contemporary property with excellent reviews is just a short drive from Palma Nova. It is conveniently positioned for those wishing to visit the area’s popular attractions. There are a variety of amenities at Sotavento Apartments on offer to guests, including 24-hour reception, currency exchange and a golf course. A gym is available to those wanting to keep active while away.
