The list of things to do in Qatar is overflowing. This Middle Eastern country offers a rich variety of food, culture and adventure, accompanied by true Arabian hospitality. Go and enjoy its beaches, sand dunes, luxury hotels and fantastic skyscrapers in the bustling new-age metropolis of Doha.
Camel racing is an ancient desert sport, known for thousands of years. In Qatar there is even a TV channel dedicated exclusively to the transmission of camel races. In Al Shahaniya track, an hour's drive north of downtown Doha, you can watch the robot jockeys riding their humped mounts. The remote controlled robots have replaced human riders, as the weight of a jockey affects the animals' speeds.
From November to February the racetrack hosts domestic and international tournaments where camels run races of varying lengths. Visitors to the track have a unique opportunity to see this luxurious sporting event and admire the best groomed and some of the most expensive camels in the world.
