Atacama Desert
The most arid desert on the planet ranges from the Andes Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The moonscape of Atacama stretches on both sides of the Pan-American Highway, undisturbed by any sign of human activity. Here you can explore the varied landscape, float in salty lakes of the Atacama salt flats and watch the pink flamingos in Los Flamencos National Reserve. Climb a salty peak and admire the awesome scenery of Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) and Valle de La Muerte (Death Valley), with large sand dunes and stone formations. Then spend some more time wandering around on the red rocks of Piedras Rojas.
Atacama is the most epic stargazing spot, boasting the most advanced telescope on Earth. Early morning you can take a trip to El Tatio Geysers. Don't forget to find Mano de Desierto, a sculpture of a giant hand in the middle of the desert. You should also check out the Atacama Giant, one of the largest ancient geoglyphs in the world.
