Visit the famous palace, situated on a hill overlooking the Golden Horn, the Sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus. Surrounded by five kilometres (3.1 miles) of stone wall with 27 towers, it combines history and stunning scenery. Dating back to the 15th century, it is considered the largest and oldest palace in the world. Home to generations of sultans and their wives, the building served as the home of the Ottoman Sultans from 1478 to 1856.
This vast complex of kiosks and pavilions, surrounded by palace gardens, was expanded over the centuries. Today the museum features brilliant architecture, crown jewels, calligraphy, weaponry, porcelain, art and clothing collections.
