You cannot leave Mauritius without learning a few Sega steps. This traditional dance has been registered by UNESCO on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The Mauritian Sega Tipik with its distinctive African rhythm will have your hips undulating to the beat. Each resort has its own Sega show. The spirit of Africa resonates through the music played by such instruments as ravanne, maravanne or triangle. Each singer improvises lyrics in the Creole language. Sega songs can talk of love or address everyday challenges and concerns, with the meaning enacted through the choreography.
