Bridges
Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the East River. It connects Lower Manhattan with Downtown Brooklyn. Built in 1909, it is noted for its innovative design and considered to be the forerunner of modern suspension bridges.
The 2 km (1.3 mile) stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge is an amazing opportunity for admiring the New York skyline. Built between 1869 and 1883, this famous landmark is one of the oldest and most recognizable suspension bridges in the world. With its Gothic-shaped arches, it spans 1,83 km (5,989 feet) and connects Manhattan to Brooklyn across the East River. You can cross the bridge in a car, on a bike, or on your feet. There is a pedestrian walkway situated above the traffic, where you can enjoy the view of the harbour and both shores.
