The Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo provide a somewhat macabre tourist attraction. 8000 mummies placed here from 17C to 19C have been impressively well preserved due to the very dry air. The last burials date from the 1920s.
Palermo's Cappella Palatina and the Cattedrale di Monreale (about 15 km south of Palermo) are the jewels of Sicily's Arab-Norman crown.
