La Isla de las Muñecas (Island of the Dolls)
Discover this bizarre, horrifying place if you dare: the island filled with hundreds of hanging dolls. It's located in Xochimilco borough, known as the Mexican Venice for its extended series of Aztec irrigation canals. The island is two-hour canal ride from Embarcadero Cuemanco.
The creepy toys with missing eyes and limbs hang from the trees to honour the lost soul a little girl who drowned there. All the dolls were collected by Don Julian Santana who lived on the island on Teshuilo Lake for over 50 years. In 2001 he was found drowned in the same area in which he believed the little girl had died. Today, hundreds of photographers and thrill-seekers travel to the haunted Island of the Dolls every year.
