Beaches
Enjoy a taste of the Caribbean in Oman! Al-Fazayah Beach (near Salalah) with 5-kilometres long pristine white sand is perfect for families. Al Mughsail Beach, located less than an hour's drive from Salalah, offers 8 kilometres of fine sand with basic infrastructure. Al Sifah Beach offers fine, deep golden sand and good conditions for various types of water sports. About 20 km east of Muscat lies Barr Al Jissah, a luxury haven on the shores of the Gulf of Oman.
Secluded coves and peaceful waters form the perfect habitat for endangered hawksbill and green turtles. The beaches at Ras al Hadd and nearby Ras al-Jinz are known as their nesting place. Ras Madrakah is also quite beautiful beach, with thousands of crabs and golden sand. In the Masirah Island you can see many shipwrecks along the remote stunning beaches and marine turtles laying eggs.

The city of the future
On the edges of Abu Dhabi, beside Abu Dhabi International Airport, there is a city designed to be a hub for cleantech companies. Masdar City relies on solar energy and other renewable energy sources. The original plan was to complete the world’s first planned sustainable city by 2016. But due to the global financial crisis of the late 2000s, it was never finished.
As of today, Masdar is like a ghost city - it is currently meeting less than 1% occupancy. Only 5% of the original project has been fully constructed. Current estimates have this futuristic city being completed by 2030. The planning directors decided to abandon the zero carbon idea, and are currently building the rest of Masdar City to be 50% carbon-neutral.
