No entry restrictions for visitors vaccinated against Covid-19? In this EU country it will happen in March!
Starting from March 1, a covid test and / or quarantine will not be required to enter Cyprus for everyone who has already had the coronavirus vaccine. Further East, Singapore’s government is evaluating the introduction of a similar measure sometime in the Spring.
The new vaccination plan and a division of countries into different categories was released by Yannis Karousos, Minister of Transport of Cyprus. In this presentation, it was announced a pioneer, but also expected new measure.
Aiming to boost the air traffic and the number of passengers, the country stated that will not to require quarantine or testing to passengers already vaccinated against covid-19 starting from 1 March.
For unvaccinated travellers, who still are overwhelming majority, changes were made to the categorisation of countries based on the traffic light system proposed by the European CDC.
The color will correspond to the number of new infections and, therefore – the degree of risk of a given country. Travellers from category A countries will become a “green category” that will not be subject to any restrictions. Passengers from Category B countries, marked in orange, will be required to present a test upon arrival. Finally, whoever arrives from Category C (red) countries will have to present a test done 72 hours before and perform another one upon arrival starting from March 1. Quarantine will be no longer required.
Singapore does not have such detailed plans. However:
“If there is clear evidence that vaccination can significantly reduce the risk of disease transmission, we will certainly consider some relaxation of the regime for vaccinated travelers,” said a ministerial official.
Singapore currently only allows visitors from only a few countries. Foreigners with a work visa can enter the country, but must pass through a quarantine of 14 days at their own cost, in one of the designated centers.
