Explore Azores – one of Europe’s most unique regions – with this package deal that includes flights from London, UK, 7-night bed and breakfast stay in top-rated 4* hotel in São Miguel Island and car rental from only £197 per person (based on booking for 2).
Europe’s only tea plantations
São Miguel Island is the only place in all of Europe where you’ll find such tea terraces. There are actually two plantations on the island. In Chá Gorreana visitors can wander the tea fields and visit the factory free of charge, learning how the old fashioned machines process tea leafs and watching how to sort black tea by hand.
Chá Porto Formoso not only produces tea, but also preserves the memories of tea production in the Azores islands from the very beginning. It is thus a museum that houses vintage machines and artefacts. During the guided tour guests are invited to sample several tea varieties. Every year in spring, tea picking ritual is recreated with the typical old-fashioned outfits.
