Byblos
This ancient Phoenician port on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. This charming 7000 years old city is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The sandy beaches and the picturesque mountains that surround it make it an ideal tourist destination. Its key tourist sites include the impressive ancient temples, St John the Baptist Church, Saint Charbel Tomb and Byblos Castle, built by the Crusaders in the 12th century.
The old medieval part of Byblos is surrounded by walls. In the southeast section of the historic city, is an Old Souk where you can shop for souvenirs and antiques. In summer you can take part in Byblos International Festival, an annual music event that takes place in the historic quarter.
