Despite the increase in news about travel restrictions and border control procedures in the United States, the most recent data indicates that the number of passengers refused entry to the country is actually decreasing slightly. This was revealed by Dieter R. F. Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of the Lufthansa Group, in a recent post on LinkedIn.
According to data presented by the CCO of the Lufthansa Group, between January 1 and May 12, 2025, the group’s airlines operated around 5,700 flights to the United States, representing an increase of nearly 8% compared to the same period last year. In total, 1.3 million passengers were transported, 8% more than in 2024.
The most relevant figure, however, is the reduction in the number of passengers denied entry to the US: it dropped from 0.17 to 0.16 per 1,000 passengers transported.
While we are aware of regular reports of denied entry, – often due to incomplete travel documentation or inconsistencies during the interviews – the figures clearly indicate no significant changes as of now in U.S. border control policies that would impact our travelers.
This decrease is occurring in a context of increasing information flow and uncertainty, where reports of entry refusals-often due to incomplete documentation or inconsistencies during interviews-have been frequent.
