Located at the southern-most tip of the country, within its small “window on the Red Sea”, Eilat is first and foremost a resort town these days, devoted to sun, fun, diving, partying and desert-based activities.
The numerous Beit Guvrin Caves were dug out over hundreds years from the soft chalk earth of the Judean Lowlands. Archaeologists have discovered the network of underground tunnels beneath an area that was once known as the cities of Maresha and Beit Guvrin. The thousands of caves have been created for a number of different reasons, ranging from hideouts, defences, chalk mines to burial sites.
You can also admire the bright blue waters of the Rosh HaNikra Grottoes. These natural caves, located on the coast near the border to Lebanon, once were only available to divers but now anyone can reach the grottoes via the world's steepest cable car.
