Passenger stuck at airport in Warsaw because of closed borders. “I’m sitting and waiting for a miracle”

airport in Warsaw

28-year-old Timothy from Sweden got stuck at Chopin Airport and can not get out due to suspended international flights. He stopped at the Polish capital on his way from Sweden to Cyprus according to RMF24.pl and the Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet”. The situation seems to have no solution.

It is said on RMF24 website that on Saturday the 28-year-old Swede went from Sweden to Cyprus, where he was supposed to start working. On his way to Cyprus he had a stopover in Warsaw. He boarded successfully in Poland because he had documents showing that he was going to work in Cyprus. However, when he was already on the plane he found out that Cyprus closed its borders and he was sent back. So he returned to Warsaw and, as it turned out, Poland in the meantime had also closed its borders and suspended all international air connections.

According to information from Aftonbladet, Timothy is sitting on a bench in the check-in hall and does not know what to do.

I haven’t slept for 35 hours, I haven’t eaten for 24 hours and I’m exhausted. I’m sitting here waiting for a miracle – he told to the newspaper

The Swede was offered to leave the airport and undergo a 14-day quarantine, but he has not decided yet because he just has nowhere to go. He confirms that ground staff at the airport in Warsaw does its best to help him.

Unlike Denmark and Norway, Sweden has not yet decided to close schools and borders are also formally open.
