Romania Joins U.S. Visa Waiver Program
Romanian citizens will soon enjoy visa-free travel to the United States, as Romania has been officially admitted into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program.
Starting March 31, 2025, Romanians can travel to the U.S. for tourism or business without obtaining a visa, for stays of up to 90 days.
To travel under this program, Romanians must obtain an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to their trip. The ESTA application costs $21 and is valid for two years, allowing multiple entries into the U.S. during that period. Applications can be completed online at esta.cbp.dhs.gov or via the ESTA Mobile app available on iOS and Android platforms.
While the visa requirement is lifted, travellers should note that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers will make the final determination of entry upon arrival. Therefore, it’s essential to ensure all travel documents are in order and to comply with U.S. entry requirements.
