Kyoto
Discover the ancient sites of Kyoto - Japan's former Imperial capital (794-1869). The Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji Temple), built at the end of the 14th century, is a symbol of the city. Other highlights of Kyoto include the torii tunnels of Fushimi-Inari-Taisha Shrine, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Eikando Zenrinji Temple and Nijo Castle.
Spend time exploring the enchanting Sagano Bamboo Forest in Arashiyama district, just a few minutes' walk from the town centre. You can access it directly from the main street of Arashiyama, close to the entrance to Tenryu-ji Temple. There's just one main path through the bamboo forest, which leads slowly uphill.
