One of Europe’s less-visited countries, ‘the heart shaped land’ of Bosnia and Hercegovina, is one of the most visually stunning corners of the old continent.

Planning a spine-chilling adventure? The haunting remains of the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympic Games will give you goose bumps. Up in the hills above the Bosnian capital is the ghostly abandoned bobsleigh track, reachable only via unkempt forest paths. It was used as a Bosnian-Serb artillery stronghold during the war in the early 1990s. Now it's overgrown and covered in graffiti.

The disused ski-jumping venue is rotting away on Mount Igman near Ilidza, outside Sarajevo. The abandoned ski jumps were also used as an artillery position during the war.
