Crater lakes
Lagoa das Sete Cidades is a charming twin lake situated in the crater of a dormant volcano, in the island of São Miguel. The caldera is filled with two lakes (green and blue), connected by a narrow land bridge.
Lagoa do Fogo is the highest crater lake in the island, located within the Água de Pau Massif stratovolcano. The caldera is the largest of the three active central volcanoes on São Miguel. Hot springs with temperatures near boiling point are located on the north-western flank of Água de Pau. Lagoa das Furnas is another crater lake worth visiting.
