The episode in which Daenerys Targaryen goes with his brother Viserys to the fictitious city of Pentos was filmed in Malta. The coast near Dwejra Bay was the setting of the Dothraki camp. Khal Drogo and Khaleesi had their wedding near the Azure Window just in time - the landmark limestone arch that once featured in George R.R. Martin's series has collapsed into the sea after heavy storm in March 2017.
Mdina was the setting of the King’s Landing, a capital of Westeros in season 1. Nowadays only 300 people live within its impressive historic walls, so it was a perfect movie set. Some scenes took place at the Mdina Main Gate and the old stone bridge. Multiple episodes were filmed in Fort Manoel and in the San Anton Palace in Attard (the official residence of the President of Malta). A monastery in Rabat was one of the settings of the famous Red Keep fortress.
