The coronavirus pandemic left airlines struggling to remain afloat with bookings and revenue tanking. Trying to counter this, most of them started to cancel flight change fees or offered refunds using vouchers. Vietjet however found a more interesting solution.
The controversies are not a new thing for VietJet. In the past passengers were served by flight attendants in bikini (it was even nicknamed as “Bikini Airlines”) and the carrier has had many other bold marketing campaigns.
This time it launched the “SKY COVID CARE” and insurance policy for all passengers who will buy tickets for domestic flights until June 30.
All passengers (regardless of nationality and age) who travel on Vietnam domestic flights operated by Vietjet subject to Vietjet’s Conditions of Carriage within the effectiveness period are eligible. Those passengers who purchased tickets before 23rd of March, 2020 and will travel within the effectiveness period are also covered.
Accordingly to the airline’s website, the policy is valid for 30 days from departure date – if someone gets infected with coronavirus during this time, they can receive a compensation ranging from 20 to 200 million VND, approximately €7805.

The airline explains that this promotion will give confidence to passengers that air travel is safe in the current situation. At the same time, it adds that the health and safety of passengers and crew are the highest priority.
So far Vietnam managed to contain the coronavirus pandemic. There are 121 registered cases in the country.
This promotion is already receiving some criticism saying that it puts passengers in a dangerous situation.
