This natural rock formation is shaped like a massive breaking ocean wave, about 15 m (49 ft) high and around 110 m (360 ft) long. Wave Rock has been an important site for the local indigenous tribes for thousands of years. It has cultural significance to Ballardong people. Hyden Rock, of which Wave Rock is part, is separated by a deep valley, which is now occupied by a water reservoir. Other notable rock formations in the area include Hippos Yawn and The Humps. The granite rocks exposed in the area range in age around 2.5 billion years.
