Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland amidst the Arctic wilderness. It is situated about 10 kilometres (6 miles) south of the Arctic Circle. In summer the sun is high also after midnight and the nightless night or polar day can be seen in Rovaniemi from early June until early July. From mid-August you can witness the northern lights also known as Aurora Borealis.
