Terceira Island
Terceira is the location of the Azores' oldest city, Angra do Heroísmo, the historical capital of the archipelago. The town was established in the latter half of the 15th century. Damaged by an earthquake in 1980, Angra is still being restored. It was classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1983. You should visit the Duque da Terceira Garden, which contains a large variety of flora species from all over the world.
Monte Brasil is the remnants of a tuff volcano connecting the south coast of Terceira in the central Azores. Flanked by two bays, it was used as a defensive point, resulting in the construction of various forts. The uninhabited Islets of Goats (Ilhéus das Cabras) in the southeast coast were also formed by the volcano. The broken in half, dual islet was used by shepherds.
