Canopy tours
If you love adrenaline-fuelled experiences, zip-lining is one of the essential things to do in Costa Rica. This country is a pioneer in canopy exploration above the jungle floor. This local adventure activity is world famous for the long cables with spectacular views. Secured into a harness, you will have the opportunity to fly over the rainforest between platforms built in trees. The 760 m (2,493 ft.) long rush over the Arenal Lake or "Superman flight" above Monteverde Cloud Forest, rappel lines and extreme "Tarzan Swings" are perfect for the thrill seekers.
For those who prefer less adrenaline, there is an aerial tram ride and a leisure walk with a naturalist guide. A series of trails will take you in a loop through the rainforest. You may even climb up into the inside of a hollow Ficus tree. Suspended bridges that link the treetops offer a nice panoramic view. The best time to hit the trails is early morning when the wildlife is most active.
