Na Pali Coast
Hawaii's diverse natural scenery makes it a popular destination for biologists. Due to the abundant, virgin vegetation, Kauai is called "the Green Island" or "the Garden Island". It is home to several natural wonders. You'll find there deep valleys, lush rainforests, towering cliffs and waterfalls. The north-west coast is occupied by high cliffs.
In Na Pali Coast State Park you can hike the picturesque Kalalau Trail, which runs along the island's north shore from Ke'e Beach to the Kalalau Valley. It crosses five major valleys and many smaller ones before reaching Kalalau Beach at the base of Kalalau Valley. Side trails along the way lead to waterfalls in the valleys above. The coast can also be enjoyed in a helicopter, and from the ocean by kayak and paddleboard. The high cliffs along the shoreline rise as much as 1200 m (4000 ft) above the Pacific Ocean. The extinct Waialeale volcano, the highest peak of the island, is one of the rainiest spots on earth.
